Whitley's Peanut Factory

Whitley's "Home-Cooked" peanuts have a wonderful, crunchy freshness and distinctive flavor because our peanuts are still made the old-fashioned way-hand cooked, slowly roasted to perfection. We choose only the highest quality, super extra-large Virginia peanuts which are hand selected for their size and freshness. Each batch is individually cooked with proven, traditional recipes to ensure the crisp, fresh flavor and unique taste for which our peanuts are famous

The Peanut Shop

Located in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg is The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg, the place where our own "founding fathers" began. It was in that tiny shop where our small batch, hand-cooked roasting techniques were developed & perfected. While the shop is still there, we have long since moved our roasting kitchen to larger confines just north of Williamsburg while staying true to our original cooking traditions.

Smithfield Hams

In 1621, Captain Nathaniel Basse first sailed his ship the “Furtherance” up the Pagan River to near what is now Smithfield, Virginia and settled a 300 acre parcel of land he called “Basse’s Choice”. As a well-respected local leader and sea trader, Captain Basse was noted for his dedication to excellence. He had a reputation for trading the very best Virginia had to offer – and today, Basse’s Choice is continuing in this tradition of excellence.

Virginia Born and Bred

Virginia Born & Bred was purchased in April, 1993 by Julie Lindsey and Peggy Maass. It was solely a retail shop located at 16 W. Washington Street in downtown historic Lexington, Virginia. In 1995, we launched our first mail order catalog. Slowly the mail order business grew. Sadly, in 2001, Peggy Maass died unexpectedly. Julie and Michele Hentz continue to manage the retail shop, catalog, and internet business with a small staff. In 2004, Virginia Born & Bred opened its fulfillment center just 1/2 mile away from its retail shop location.
