Lehi Roller Mills

By 1905, Lehi farmers were getting tired of hauling wheat to American Fork for milling — something they had been doing for 15 years since the Spring Creek Flour Mill went out of business. But in June of that year came an announcement in the Lehi Banner: A group of businessmen and other shareholders, who each invested $20,000, were forming a co-op to build a "a new flour mill with modern pattern and equipment."

Royers Round Top Cafe

Bud, “the Pieman” Royer is the funky founding father of Royers Round Top Café, and Royers mail order pies. Bud, along with his wife, Karen, and their four children moved to Round Top in 1987 and took over the tiny 40-seat Round Top Café. The Royer clan is the third family to run the cafe since it opened in 1946. With no culinary training or kitchen experience, Bud and his family, have built and marketed the café into a well-recognized Texas institution. Today, his oldest, daughter Tara “the Pie Queen”, has become the second-generation steward of the Royers brand. Tara now owns the café where she’s been working since the age of 12. She and her husband Rick Steele, take Bud’s vision and turn them into realities.

Texas In A Box

TexasInaBox.Com is located at 124 and 126 West California Street, in the small farming and ranching town of Floydada (pronounced Floi-day-duh), situated on the high, flat southern tip of the North American Great Plains. Floydada is in the middle of one of the largest beef and cotton producing areas of the world - we're just down the road from the famous Matador Ranch. The area is ideal for agriculture, since the land is fertile and very, very flat. We are based in, and have restored, a building erected in 1926 about one block west of Floydada's courthouse square. Just a few doors down is our bank; a drug store; a good Tex-Mex cafe (Azteca); an old-fashioned general store and auto parts shop (Caprock), and; several other locally owned, family businesses.

Mary Louise Butter's Brownies

Here is the first thing you need to know about Mary Louise Butters brownies: Mary Louise Butters is a real person, and yes, that's her real name. In fact, on any given day, a fair number of people here in Austin, Texas will call Mary Louise or even stop her on the street just to tell her how incredibly delightful they've found her brownies to be.

Many of us in Austin have come to the conclusion that Mary Louise is to brownie-making what Mozart is to music and what Mary Poppins is to child care.
